We have been a little quiet on the blog but for a very good reason. Many of you know that I am in the process of moving my studio to a new location to help with my expanding fashion sewing business.
Ever have one of those moments where you feel completely overwhelmed, but over-the-top excited at the same time? Well I am having one of those moments right now.
There is so much to do at my new studio, “Designer Joi’s Sewing Factory,” and yet I am so excited I can’t stop thinking about it!
Just a couple days ago I had a wall installed which completed the look of our photography studio. I am really happy with how it turned out! Now my assistant and I will have a bunch of different places where we can take pictures or record videos to share with you all on social media (hey send us ideas of things you would like to learn if you want).
I am trying to decide what color to paint the walls, or if I should just paint them white and put up colored backdrops? There are so many options.
Also, I just found out that the carpet for the front section could be put in and done by the end of the week, which means that I don’t have very much time to get all the painting done. Not to worry though because family and friends have volunteered (or have been sweetly volun-told) to help me finish this big job before the end of the week.
Some of you may know this already, but Designer Joi’s Sewing Factory used to be a bank a long time ago (with a roller-skating rink on the second floor- pretty cool right!) so I have this awesome bank vault that I am trying to remodel.
I thought about making this a dressing room since I could put a curtain in front of the door opening and leave the vault door open the whole time. But then I imagined the look on people’s faces when I showed them to the mysterious vault, and it became very clear to me that this shouldn’t be a dressing room- although that would be really really fun.
I thought I could make it into the break room with tables and chairs, or just make it a decorative piece by refinishing it and adding in screws and cogs to make it match the theme of the Sewing Factory. I just learned new metallic painting techniques and we will start by refinishing the outside door metallic silver with a texture. The inside will be hot pink for fun.
Stay tuned for photos of how it turns out.
All in all, this is one of the scariest and happiest times in my life. I have been thinking about getting a new space for some time now but I didn’t have any idea about where I should start looking. I drove past this place for years and then one day, it just clicked. The timing of this new space becoming available could not have been more perfect. Location TBA very soon after the remodeling is done. We want to have a big reveal!
I am looking forward to having my own photo studio so I can more frequently better illustrate what I am talking about in “My Perfect Fit Blog” for you all, I am looking forward to a whole series of videos that we are planning, and I am eager to share more details about some new classes that will be held in the Sewing Factory. WOW! A permanent classroom for all my students!
