Change the fabric, adjust the flare, and make countless new looks.
As a fashion designer and custom clothier, I have the opportunity to create beautiful garments for a variety of clients, including fancy gowns with elaborate details. I recently was my own client, preparing for a photo shoot at a castle in Northern Ireland. I loved my dream skirt and realized I could easily transform the draped pattern from a full, floor-length ball skirt into a classic A-line design.
By changing the fabric and sewing techniques and intentionally using bias, I developed a cut that is attractive on any figure and can be made in almost any fabric. The featured tweed fabric creates a tailored, classy look (featured in Issue 234 of Threads Magazine, Summer 2026). Highlights of this design include a contoured & faced waistband, the option to add a zipper closure, and the option to change to a knit stretch fabric.
