The Art of Fashion Draping Master Class: Fundamentals & Creative Design (Next Event TBA)

Would you like to better understand how a garment pattern interacts with the three-dimensional body? Would you like to improve your fitting and pattern skills? Do you depend on commercial patterns when creating clothing that you are inspired to make only to be disappointed at the drape, hang, or fit? What if you could make the pattern yourself? Draping is a sought-after skill in fashion sewing, but it is more than learning to make a basic sloper on a dress form. Draping is learning to mold and create new designs on a dress form. This three-dimensional approach will give you a better understanding of how patterns are created, how the basic sloper that is featured in flat pattern is created and modified for a truly custom fit, you’ll master dart fitting, and learn to read between the seams with Joi’s eye on fit and her approach to customizing the garment pattern. Draping is more than just putting fabric on a form, however, and not all classes are created equal. Learn to not only mold your fabric but customize fit during the process of pattern making.

Description

Join Designer Joi this July for a full week of draping lessons during this live master class featuring fundamentals of draping, plenty of creative design and a bonus lesson on bias draping and a fun bias bodice design. This class will also feature two post-event live zoom lessons for complimentary evaluations of your designs hosted by Joi. With over 25 years draping in her professional career, Joi hopes to inspire her students and also teach quality and practical techniques to empower you in your sewing and design.

This event will feature multi lessons each day filmed live in ZOOM. Students will be able to interact and ask questions. For students who may not be able to watch live, the lessons will be recorded and posted in an online classroom where students will have access to the lessons for several weeks after the event. Space is limited so register ASAP.

No need to worry about traveling. Enjoy learning in the comfort of your own home or sewing studio, but still enjoy quality retreat time with Joi and other students.

Suggested Supplemental Materials: Designer Joi’s Fashion Sewing Workbook, Half Scale Dress Form, Bolt of Muslin

Students will need to pre-cut their muslin. Instructions will be provided a few weeks prior to the event.

A draping dress form is required. Joi will be sharing info on her FB Live about dress forms, or reach out to the studio with your questions. Joi recommends the half-scale forms available at www.designerjoi.com. Supplies are limited. First come First Serve.

A list of individual class times will be provided a few weeks prior to the event, but classes will have a morning and afternoon session, a bonus evening session and additional complementary times.
